Mealworms

(Tenebrio molitor)

The feeder that is small, crunchy and dangerously addictive: mealworms from Crazy Critters.

Ideal for a wide range of animals, our mealworms fit neatly into a balanced diet — if by ❛balanced❜ you mean pets may ignore everything else until they’re gone.

Our mealworms are a firm favourite with pet owners and their enthusiastic animals but best fed in moderation because pets don’t do self-control.

DESCRIPTION

Mealworms | Mini

(Tenebrio molitor)

Tiny but surprisingly dramatic mini mealworms from Crazy Critters—the perfect feeder insect for small mouths that act personally offended by food that’s “too big.”

Our mini mealworms are a smaller-sized version of our regular mealworms, making them ideal for younger, smaller, or more delicate creatures.

They’re packed with nutrition, easy to handle, and wriggle around just enough to trigger that “yes, I shall hunt this immediately” instinct.

THE BENEFITS

Here are a few reasons pets (and their humans) keep coming back for more:

  • fresh and packed with nutrients

  • perfectly sized for smaller amphibians, birds, fish and reptiles

  • ideal as live feeder insects for younger animals learning to hunt, chase, and actually notice their food exists

Experience the difference in your pet's health, happiness, and general enthusiasm at feeding time with our mini mealworms—because apparently size does matter after all.

PRODUCT INFO

Our mealworms are available in three different sizes:

Our mini
mealworms are suitable for omnivores and are safe to feed the following animals to provide variety in their diet:

  • bearded dragons
  • blue tongue lizards
  • chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowls
  • forest dragons
  • frogs
  • geckos
  • gliders and possums
  • green tree frogs
  • predatory fish
  • small mammals
  • turtles
  • water dragons; and
  • wildlife

STORAGE

To keep your mealworms alive and only mildly offended by captivity, we recommend you:

  • unpack your mealworms on arrival to reduce the risk of losses

  • you can store them in a fridge to slow their growth and delay their inevitable plans for pupation

  • take them out of the fridge at least once a week, for 24 hours, so they can eat; replace the bran, before sending them back to their regularly scheduled refrigeration

  • when feeding your pet: remove mealworms from the fridge 24-48 hours beforehand and gutload them properly — cold, hungry mealworms aren’t exactly premium dining

COMMENTS

Mealworms are not considered a staple food because of their high-fat content.

We recommend offering them as an occasional treat rather than part of the daily buffet.

Pets love them.
Nutritionists are slightly less enthusiastic.

That said, if your pet is injured, sick, breeding, or looking a little less “majestic beast” than usual, mealworms can help support healthy weight gain.
