Our wood cockroaches (woodies—if you’re trying to sound less horrified) are available in 4 different sizes: 

• x-small woodies  (5mm)
  
  
• small woodies  (5mm-10mm)
  
  
• medium woodies  (10mm-20mm)
  
  
• large woodies  (20mm-30mm)
  

Woodies are highly active, which means they trigger a strong feeding response in pets that like their dinner to put up at least a little bit of a fight.

They’re also clean, natural, nutritious, and far more appealing to your animals than whatever dried mystery cubes came with their enclosure.

Perfect for feeding:

• frogs
  
  
• geckos
  
  
• insect-eating birds
  
  
• lizards
  
  
• predatory fish
  
  
• scorpions and spiders
  
  
• turtles; and
  
  
• wildlife

To keep your woodies happy, healthy, and preferably not roaming your house unsupervised, we recommend that you:

• unpack your woodies as soon as they arrive — because nothing says “surprise houseguest” quite like discovering one halfway across the laundry three days later.
  
  
  
• store them at room temperature in a container without a lid (yes, really—trust the process)
  
  
  
• apply a 5cm—10cm strip of Fluon Insect Barrier Paint around the inside top edges of the container to discourage any ambitious little escapees!
  
  
  
• feed them them a quality diet like Crazy Critters Gutload—Premium Insect Food, or if your woodies are more into the “low protein” lifestyle, try our Organic Wheat, AND
  
  
  
• provide fresh produce twice a week,
  because even insects demand a balanced diet now.

Woodies naturally have a less-than-impressive calcium-to-phosphorous ratio, so if you’re feeding them to your pet, they may need a little nutritional glow-up first.


You can boost their calcium content by:

• dusting your insects with calcium powder immediately before serving them up to your pet, OR
  
  
  
• adding calcium powder to their diet.

Note: woodies are also commonly
known as speckled feeder roaches and lobster roaches—which somehow sounds both fancier and slightly more threatening.
